  1. 1. C1 · Speaking

Jak poprosić o doprecyzowanie, nie podważając rozmówcy?

    Show the answer

Answer: Czy dobrze rozumiem, że chodzi o termin, a nie o koszt?

Example: Czy dobrze rozumiem, że chodzi o termin, a nie o koszt? Chciałbym mieć pewność, zanim odpowiem.

    Poloniusz explains:

„Czy dobrze rozumiem, że” puts the burden of any misunderstanding on you, so the other person does not feel caught being unclear. It is one of the most effective phrases in official conversation and in an oral exam.

  2. 2. C1 · Speaking

Jak złagodzić mocną tezę, żeby nie zabrzmiała kategorycznie?

    Show the answer

Answer: Wydaje się, że w większości przypadków tak właśnie jest.

Example: Wydaje się, że w większości przypadków tak właśnie jest, choć zdarzają się wyjątki.

    Poloniusz explains:

At this level a graded expression of certainty is expected rather than categorical statements. „Wydaje się”, „w większości przypadków”, „zazwyczaj” and „choć zdarzają się wyjątki” make a statement cautious and therefore more credible.

  3. 3. C1 · Speaking

Jak zgłosić zastrzeżenie, nie przerywając rozmowy?

    Show the answer

Answer: Z jednym zastrzeżeniem: to wymaga zgody właściciela.

Example: Zgadzam się z tym planem, z jednym zastrzeżeniem: to wymaga zgody właściciela budynku.

    Poloniusz explains:

„Z jednym zastrzeżeniem” lets you accept someone's position while attaching a condition, without entering a dispute. It is a standard phrase in meetings and negotiations. The colon after it announces exactly what the doubt concerns.

  4. 4. C1 · Speaking

    Jak podsumować dłuższą wypowiedź?

    Show the answer

Answer: Podsumowując, najważniejsze są dwie rzeczy.

Example: Podsumowując, najważniejsze są dwie rzeczy: termin i koszt. Reszta da się ustalić później.

    Poloniusz explains:

„Podsumowując” announces the end of your statement and organises it for the listener. Follow it with the number of points, so the listener knows how much is left. The phrase comes from formal style and would sound artificial in casual conversation.

  5. 5. C1 · Grammatical accuracy

Na co uważać przy odmianie liczebników?

    Show the answer

Answer: Przypadek liczebnika musi pasować do rzeczownika i do funkcji w zdaniu: „przy dwustu uczestnikach”. Kontroluj całą konstrukcję, nie sam liczebnik.

    Poloniusz explains:

The numeral, the noun and the preposition form a single unit. „Przy” takes the locative, so both words inflect: „przy dwustu uczestnikach”, not „przy dwieście uczestników”. Watch the masculine-personal forms separately: „dwóch studentów przyszło”, but „dwaj studenci przyszli”.
