About the site

PolskiCert.pl prepares you for the state certificate examination in Polish as a foreign language at levels B1, B2 and C1. Everything here serves one exam paper and one pass mark. This is not a general course of Polish.

The site has four language versions: Polish, Ukrainian, Russian and English. The same content, the same material, only the language of the explanations is different. The tasks themselves are of course in Polish, because that is what the exam is.

What this site is not

This is the most important paragraph on the page, so it comes near the top.

PolskiCert.pl does not run the examination and does not issue certificates. We do not register anyone for the exam, we do not set exam dates, we do not collect exam fees and we have no influence on the result.

We are not connected with the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language (Państwowa Komisja do spraw Poświadczania Znajomości Języka Polskiego jako Obcego) or with the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). We do not act on their behalf, we have no approval, patronage or authorisation from them and we do not present ourselves as their representative. We are a private educational website, nothing more.

The examination is run by the Commission through authorised institutions. The certificate is issued by the Commission. Look for registration, dates and fees there, not here.

Why this site exists

In this exam there is no average. The written part is divided into four modules (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammatical correctness, writing) and you have to reach the pass mark in each module separately, and in the oral part as well. One hundred per cent in grammar does not save the writing module. One module below the pass mark fails the whole exam.

There is a simple conclusion here for the learner: what counts is not your general fluency but your weakest module. That is why the site shows your progress separately for each module and separately for each section of the material. The point is for you to know which module is dragging you down before you find it out from your exam result.

The second reason is that the materials circulating online have two constant faults: they guess the format and they say nothing about the date. Our format is taken from the sample papers published by the Commission, and the legal status is stated openly in the footer of every page. How we check it is described on the sources and methodology page. It is worth reading before you buy anything, ours or anyone else's.

Who it is for

• For people who need a certificate at level B1 for an application for Polish citizenship. This is the most common reason for taking this exam.
• For people who need B2 or C1 for studies, for work, for the recognition of a foreign diploma or for a profession that requires documented knowledge of Polish.
• For those who have already taken the exam once and failed one module. A second attempt costs exactly as much as the first, so it pays to know precisely where it went wrong.

Where the material comes from

The scope of the content comes from Annex 1 to the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 14 February 2025 (Journal of Laws, Dz.U. 2025 poz. 217). The annex contains the requirement standards: a description of proficiency at each level, a list of grammar topics, a catalogue of subject areas and a catalogue of language functions and notions. It is the only official source that says what the exam may cover.

The material is divided into 29 sections: 19 grammar sections, 5 vocabulary sections and one section each for listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, speaking and typical mistakes caused by your first language. That last section is rare in a site like this, and it is needed: false friends, a different verb government and a different aspect are mistakes you make not from ignorance but from habit.

We reproduce the format of the tasks from the sample papers published by the Commission. We reproduce the format only, that is the type of task, the number of items, the scoring and the way the instruction is worded. Not a single task of the Commission has been copied here - its papers are a work protected by copyright. The details are in sources and methodology.

What is free and what is paid

Free of charge and without an account you get the whole task bank with explanations and the first 5 items of every task set and every flashcard set. Not to tempt you, but so that you can check the level and the way things are explained before you spend a single zloty.

Paid access covers the full task sets, the flashcards, the recordings for the listening module, a mock exam with a timer and pass marks, and a record of your progress. Access is time limited: you buy 2, 30 or 90 days. There is no subscription and no automatic renewal - when the period ends nothing renews itself and nobody quietly takes any money. What the site does not do

• It does not guarantee a pass. The result is decided solely by the State Commission. No website, course or teacher can promise you a certificate.
• It does not replace talking to a person. You can prepare for the oral part in terms of strategy and vocabulary, but speaking is learned by speaking, to a live person.
• It does not mark your writing. We show you the structure of the required text types, the marking criteria and a bank of phrases. No algorithm will award points for your text in place of an examiner.
• It does not give legal or immigration advice. We write which level a citizenship application requires, because that follows directly from the statute. But we do not handle cases and we do not assess anyone's residence situation.

Your guide around the site is Poloniusz, a marble statue of a teacher of Polish. In the explanatory texts he has a voice of his own, but in the explanations next to the tasks he has none at all. There you will find only the rule and what follows from it. Nobody passes an exam on jokes.

This is a site about correct Polish, so a mistake in a task discredits us more than it would anywhere else. If something is wrong, write to kontakt@polskicert.pl and give us:

2. the level and the section,
3. what exactly is wrong and, if you can, why.

We reply within 14 days, and corrections go in sooner. Reporting a mistake is the most effective way to make this site better and the most appreciated thing you can do here.
