Levels: B1 · B2 · C1 · 54 tasks

Read the article

  1. 1. (B1)

Przeczytaj fragment menu: „Zestaw dnia: zupa pomidorowa, pierogi ruskie i kompot. Dania z karty zamawiamy osobno.” Co obejmuje zestaw dnia?

    1. A. Wszystkie dania z karty.
    2. B. Tylko zupę pomidorową.
    3. C. Zupę, pierogi i kompot.
    4. D. Pierogi i dowolny napój.
    Poloniusz explains:

In the text, after the name „zestaw dnia”, three items are listed: soup, pierogi and compote. The sentence about dishes from the menu says that they are not part of the set and must be ordered separately. The answer about „wszystkich daniach z karty” repeats an expression from the text, but changes its meaning.

Rule: finding detailed information in a menu

  2. 2. (B1)

Przeczytaj fragment rozkładu jazdy: „Autobus 105 do centrum odjeżdża z przystanku Dworzec o 7.10, 7.40 i 8.10. W soboty i niedziele kurs o 7.10 nie jeździ.” Którym autobusem 105 można pojechać z Dworca do centrum w niedzielę rano?

    1. A. tylko o 8.10
    2. B. o 7.10
    3. C. o 7.40 albo o 8.10
    4. D. o 7.10 i 7.40
    Poloniusz explains:

On Sundays, the 7.10 service does not run, so it has to be excluded. The 7.40 and 8.10 services remain, because the text does not say that they are cancelled at weekends. The answers with the time 7.10 repeat information from the text, but ignore the negation.

Rule: finding detailed information in a timetable

  3. 3. (B1)

Przeczytaj informację w formularzu: „Prosimy wypełnić wszystkie pola oznaczone gwiazdką. Podanie numeru telefonu jest dobrowolne.” Co musi zrobić osoba wypełniająca formularz?

    1. A. Zostawić puste pola oznaczone gwiazdką.
    2. B. Wypełnić tylko pole z numerem telefonu.
    3. C. Podać numer telefonu w każdym formularzu.
    4. D. Wypełnić wszystkie pola z gwiazdką.
    Poloniusz explains:

In forms, fields marked with an asterisk are obligatory, so they must be filled in. The word „dobrowolne” means that the telephone number may be given, but does not have to be. The text does not allow fields with an asterisk to be left empty, nor does it allow you to give only the telephone number.

Rule: distinguishing obligatory and optional information in a form

  4. 4. (B1)

Przeczytaj informację z menu: „Zestaw dnia: zupa pomidorowa, pierogi ruskie i kompot - 28 zł. Danie dostępne tylko od poniedziałku do piątku w godzinach 12.00-16.00.” Kiedy można zamówić zestaw dnia?

    1. A. w sobotę o 13.00
    2. B. w poniedziałek o 11.00
    3. C. w piątek o 18.00
    4. D. we wtorek o 13.00
    Poloniusz explains:

The text gives two conditions: a day from Monday to Friday and the hours 12.00-16.00. „We wtorek o 13.00” meets both conditions. „W sobotę o 13.00” has the right time but the wrong day, while „w piątek o 18.00” and „w poniedziałek o 11.00” are outside the stated hours.

Rule: understanding a time restriction in a menu

  5. 5. (B1)

Przeczytaj informację z rozkładu jazdy: „Kurs do Zielonej Góry o 7.40 nie zatrzymuje się przy szpitalu. Najbliższy przystanek: Dworzec Główny.” Co jest prawdą?

    1. A. Autobus o 7.40 jedzie tylko do Dworca Głównego.
    2. B. Autobus o 7.40 nie jedzie do Zielonej Góry.
    3. C. Autobus o 7.40 omija przystanek przy szpitalu.
    4. D. Autobus o 7.40 kończy trasę przy szpitalu.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „nie zatrzymuje się” means that the bus passes a given stop without stopping there. The text does not say that the bus ends its route at the hospital or that it does not go to Zielona Góra. The name „Dworzec Główny” indicates the nearest stop, not the end of the route.

Rule: understanding detailed information in a timetable

  6. 6. (B1)

Przeczytaj instrukcję w formularzu: „Wpisz numer telefonu, jeśli chcesz otrzymać SMS o gotowym dokumencie. Pole nie jest obowiązkowe.” Co oznacza ta instrukcja?

    1. A. Numer telefonu można podać, ale nie trzeba.
    2. B. Każdy musi wpisać numer telefonu w formularzu.
    3. C. Dokument można odebrać dopiero po otrzymaniu SMS-a.
    4. D. SMS trzeba wysłać razem z wypełnionym formularzem.
    Poloniusz explains:

The sentence „pole nie jest obowiązkowe” means that the telephone number is optional. It may be entered if someone wants to receive an SMS about the ready document, but there is no such obligation. Answers about the necessity of giving the number, collecting the document only after receiving an SMS, or sending an SMS together with the form contradict the instruction.

Rule: expressing optionality: nie jest obowiązkowe

  7. 7. (B1)

Przeczytaj komunikat: „Z powodu przeglądu technicznego sauna będzie nieczynna do piątku włącznie. Basen działa bez zmian.” Co wynika z komunikatu?

    1. A. Basen jest zamknięty do piątku.
    2. B. Przegląd techniczny odbędzie się na basenie.
    3. C. Sauna będzie otwarta już w piątek.
    4. D. Sauna jest zamknięta także w piątek.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „do piątku włącznie” means that Friday is also included in the period of closure. The sentence „Basen działa bez zmian” rules out the answer about the swimming pool being closed. The error may result from reading only the word „piątek”, without taking the word „włącznie” into account.

Rule: understanding detailed information in a notice about service availability

  8. 8. (B1)

Przeczytaj napis: „Miejsca tylko dla klientów apteki. Pozostałe pojazdy będą odholowane na koszt właściciela.” Kto może tu zaparkować?

    1. A. Kierowcy, którzy płacą za parking.
    2. B. Klienci wszystkich sklepów w okolicy.
    3. C. Osoby robiące zakupy w aptece.
    4. D. Właściciele wszystkich pojazdów.
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „tylko” limits the possibility of parking to one group: customers of the pharmacy. „Klienci wszystkich sklepów” is an incorrect answer, even though it repeats the word „klienci”. The information about towing away concerns other vehicles, not the right to park.

Rule: understanding a restriction expressed by the word tylko in an announcement

  9. 9. (B1)

Przeczytaj napis: „Nie zastawiać wyjazdu. Brama czynna całą dobę.” Co oznacza ten napis?

    1. A. Przed bramą znajduje się bezpłatny parking dla samochodów.
    2. B. Można zostawić samochód przy bramie, ale tylko na jedną dobę.
    3. C. Wyjazd jest zamknięty, więc nie można z tej bramy korzystać.
    4. D. Nie wolno parkować przed bramą, bo samochody muszą wyjeżdżać.
    Poloniusz explains:

The notice „Nie zastawiać wyjazdu” gives information about a ban on blocking the place through which cars drive out. The expression „całą dobę” means that the gate is in use all the time, not that parking is allowed there for 24 hours. The information about a closed exit or about free parking contradicts the content of the notice.

Rule: understanding a ban in an information notice

  10. 10. (B1)

Przeczytaj napis: „Ostatnie wejście na basen o 20.15. Obiekt zamykamy o 21.00.” Co oznacza ten napis?

    1. A. Basen jest czynny tylko od 20.15.
    2. B. Po 20.15 nie można już wejść na basen.
    3. C. Po wejściu można zostać na basenie całą noc.
    4. D. Wszyscy muszą wyjść z basenu o 20.15.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „ostatnie wejście” gives information about the latest time at which one may enter the facility. The second time refers to the closing of the swimming pool, so customers must leave the facility before 21.00. Repeating the time 20.15 in the answer about leaving changes the meaning of the notice.

Rule: understanding an information notice in a public place

  11. 11. (B1)

Przeczytaj ogłoszenie drobne: „Sprzedam używany rower miejski, odbiór tylko osobisty w Krakowie. Nie wysyłam kurierem.” Co wynika z ogłoszenia?

    1. A. Rower jest nowy i ma charakter sportowy.
    2. B. Rower można odebrać osobiście w każdym mieście.
    3. C. Kupujący musi odebrać rower osobiście w Krakowie.
    4. D. Sprzedający wysyła rower kurierem do kupującego.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „odbiór tylko osobisty w Krakowie” gives the method and place of collection, so the buyer must collect the bicycle in person at exactly that location. The sentence „nie wysyłam kurierem” rules out courier delivery. The word „używany” means that the bicycle is not new, and „miejski” does not mean „sportowy”. For this reason, the other options are incorrect.

Rule: finding detailed information in a small ad

  12. 12. (B1)

Przeczytaj ogłoszenie: „Oddam za darmo biurko dla dziecka. Odbiór tylko osobisty, wieczorem po 18.00.” Co musi zrobić zainteresowana osoba?

    1. A. Przyjść po biurko przed 18.00.
    2. B. Poprosić o wysłanie biurka pocztą.
    3. C. Odebrać biurko osobiście po 18.00.
    4. D. Zapłacić za biurko przy odbiorze.
    Poloniusz explains:

The wording „oddam za darmo” means that no payment is needed for the desk. „Odbiór tylko osobisty” rules out shipping, and „po 18.00” indicates the time of collection. The answer with the time „przed 18.00” contradicts the text.

Rule: understanding collection conditions in a small ad

  13. 13. (B1)

Przeczytaj ogłoszenie: „Paczki wydajemy adresatowi wyłącznie po okazaniu numeru przesyłki i dokumentu ze zdjęciem. Pełnomocnictwa nie są przyjmowane.” Kto może odebrać paczkę?

    1. A. adresat z dokumentem ze zdjęciem, ale bez numeru przesyłki
    2. B. adresat z numerem przesyłki i dokumentem ze zdjęciem
    3. C. kolega adresata z pełnomocnictwem i numerem przesyłki
    4. D. osoba znająca numer przesyłki, ale bez dokumentu ze zdjęciem
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „wyłącznie” means that all the stated conditions must be met at the same time. The parcel may be collected only by the addressee, who must show the shipment number and a document with a photo. The information about authorizations rules out collection by another person, even if that person has authorization and knows the shipment number. The number alone without a document, or the document alone without the number, is not enough.

Rule: understanding conditions in a practical notice

  14. 14. (B1)

Przeczytaj ogłoszenie: „Sprzedam używany rower miejski, stan dobry, cena 450 zł do negocjacji. Odbiór osobisty w Krakowie.” Która informacja jest prawdziwa?

    1. A. Odbiór roweru jest możliwy tylko poza Krakowem.
    2. B. Cenę roweru można jeszcze ustalić ze sprzedającym.
    3. C. Sprzedający wysyła rower do każdego miasta.
    4. D. Rower jest nowy i kosztuje dokładnie 450 zł.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „do negocjacji” means that the stated price can still be discussed with the seller. The text says that the bicycle is used, so it is not new. „Odbiór osobisty w Krakowie” rules out shipping to any city and collection anywhere outside the stated place.

Rule: understanding a small ad and the expression do negocjacji

  15. 15. (B1)

Przeczytaj ogłoszenie: „Z powodu awarii ogrzewania dzisiejsze zajęcia z języka polskiego są odwołane. Nowy termin zostanie podany jutro.” Co powinni dziś zrobić uczestnicy zajęć?

    1. A. Przyjść jutro na zajęcia, bo nowy termin będzie wtedy.
    2. B. Nie przychodzić dziś na zajęcia, bo zostały odwołane.
    3. C. Przyjść dziś na zajęcia, tylko w cieplejszych ubraniach.
    4. D. Zadzwonić dziś do firmy, która naprawia ogrzewanie.
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „odwołane” means that the planned classes will not take place, so there is no need to come today. Information about the new date is to be given tomorrow, but the text does not say that the classes themselves will take place tomorrow. The heating failure is the reason why the classes have been cancelled, not information that the participants should contact the repair company.

Rule: finding detailed information in a notice

  16. 16. (B1)

Przeczytaj tekst: „Autobus do centrum odjeżdża o 7.40 tylko w dni nauki szkolnej. W wakacje kurs jest zawieszony.” Kiedy ten autobus jedzie?

    1. A. w każdy wakacyjny wtorek
    2. B. w szkolny poniedziałek o 7.40
    3. C. przez całe lato o 7.40
    4. D. w każdą niedzielę o 7.40
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „tylko w dni nauki szkolnej” means days when lessons are held. The sentence „w wakacje kurs jest zawieszony” rules out rides in the summer holidays. The time 7.40 alone is not enough if the day does not meet the condition stated in the text.

Rule: finding detailed information in a timetable

  17. 17. (B1)

Przeczytaj tekst: „Promocja obowiązuje od poniedziałku do piątku, z wyjątkiem świąt. Rabat naliczany jest przy kasie.” Kiedy klient może dostać rabat?

    1. A. w każdą sobotę przy kasie
    2. B. dopiero po wyjściu ze sklepu
    3. C. w zwykły wtorek przy kasie
    4. D. w święto, jeśli to poniedziałek
    Poloniusz explains:

In notices, limiting expressions are important, for example „z wyjątkiem świąt”. The promotion is valid on working days from Monday to Friday, but not on holidays. The expression „przy kasie” says where the discount is calculated, not that it applies on Saturday or after leaving the shop.

Rule: finding detailed information in a promotional notice

  18. 18. (B1)

Przeczytaj tekst: „Zestaw dnia sprzedajemy tylko w całości; jedno danie można zamienić na sałatkę, która nie jest dodatkiem.” Co może zrobić klient?

    1. A. zamówić cały zestaw z sałatką zamiast jednego dania
    2. B. zamienić kompot z zestawu na dowolny deser
    3. C. zamówić tylko kompot zamiast całego zestawu dnia
    4. D. wziąć sałatkę jako dodatkowe danie do zestawu
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „tylko” limits the possibility of purchase: the set must be bought as a whole. The text only allows one dish to be exchanged for a salad, not a salad to be added as an extra. There is also no information about a dessert, and the expression „tylko w całości” rules out buying only the compote or exchanging the compote for another product.

Rule: understanding restrictions in a short practical text

  19. 19. (B2)

Co sygnalizuje wyraz „natomiast” w fragmencie: „Część mieszkańców popiera budowę parkingu przy stacji. Natomiast lokalni przedsiębiorcy obawiają się utraty miejsca na ogródki.”

    1. A. przeciwstawienie stanowisk dwóch grup
    2. B. wniosek wynikający z poparcia parkingu
    3. C. przykład działań przedsiębiorców
    4. D. dodanie kolejnego argumentu za parkingiem
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „natomiast” links information set against each other by contrast. In this fragment, one group supports the car park, while another fears its effects, so the relationship between the sentences is contrastive. It is not a conclusion, an example, or another argument in favour of building the car park.

Rule: the connective word natomiast signals contrast

  20. 20. (B2)

Które zdanie najlepiej wstawić w miejsce luki: „Badanie przeprowadzono wyłącznie wśród osób korzystających z aplikacji bankowych. ... Nie wolno więc na tej podstawie opisywać zwyczajów wszystkich klientów banków.”

    1. A. Wyniki dowodzą, że wszyscy klienci wolą aplikacje.
    2. B. Respondenci szczegółowo opisali częstotliwość logowania.
    3. C. Banki intensywnie reklamują nowe usługi mobilne.
    4. D. W próbie zabrakło osób korzystających tylko z oddziałów.
    Poloniusz explains:

The gap should explain why the conclusion from the study has a limited scope. The sentence about the absence of people who use only branches shows that the sample does not include all types of customers. Information about login frequency and advertisements does not justify limiting the conclusion, and the sentence about all customers contradicts the author’s final assessment.

Rule: filling a gap with a sentence justifying a limited conclusion

  21. 21. (B2)

Które zdanie najlepiej wstawić w miejsce luki: „W pierwszym półroczu liczba pasażerów wzrosła o 12 procent. ... Zarząd nie planuje jednak podwyżki cen biletów.”

    1. A. Dlatego zarząd zapowiedział podwyżkę cen biletów w najbliższym czasie.
    2. B. Wzrost liczby pasażerów rozwiązał wszystkie problemy spółki w tym półroczu.
    3. C. Podróżni najczęściej wybierali bilety miesięczne w pierwszym półroczu.
    4. D. Jednocześnie koszty utrzymania taboru były wyższe niż rok temu.
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „jednak” announces a contrast with the earlier information. The sentence about higher fleet maintenance costs creates the expectation of an increase in ticket prices, which is then reversed by the information that the management board is not planning one. Sentences about an announced increase or about solving all of the company’s problems contradict the later part of the fragment, and the information about monthly tickets does not build the necessary logical relationship.

Rule: filling a gap with a sentence matching the contrast signalled by jednak

  22. 22. (B2)

Które zdanie wyraża argument, a nie tezę fragmentu: „Miasto powinno ograniczyć ruch samochodów w centrum. Ponadto takie rozwiązanie zmniejszy hałas w pobliżu szkół i szpitali.”

    1. A. Szkoły i szpitale należy przenieść poza ścisłe centrum.
    2. B. W centrum miasta nie ma już żadnego uciążliwego hałasu.
    3. C. Ograniczenie ruchu zmniejszy hałas przy szkołach i szpitalach.
    4. D. Ruch samochodów w centrum należy wyraźnie ograniczyć.
    Poloniusz explains:

A thesis is the author’s position, and an argument justifies why that position is worth accepting. In the fragment, the thesis is the need to limit traffic in the centre, whereas the information about less noise near schools and hospitals functions as an argument. The other sentences do not express this argument: one repeats the thesis, and two others do not follow from the text.

Rule: distinguishing a thesis from an argument in an argumentative text

  23. 23. (B2)

Który akapit powinien bezpośrednio poprzedzać fragment: „Z drugiej strony, całkowita rezygnacja z papierowych paragonów wykluczyłaby część starszych klientów. Dlatego zmiany trzeba wprowadzać stopniowo.”

    1. A. Paragony elektroniczne ograniczają zużycie papieru i ułatwiają przechowywanie potwierdzeń zakupu.
    2. B. Zmiany w handlu należy wprowadzać stopniowo i poprzedzać je szeroką kampanią informacyjną.
    3. C. Starsi klienci często wolą papierowe dokumenty i rzadziej korzystają z aplikacji oraz usług cyfrowych.
    4. D. Sklepy od lat drukują paragony, ponieważ takie rozwiązanie wynikało z wcześniejszych przepisów.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „z drugiej strony” introduces an argument opposite to the one given earlier. The paragraph about the advantages of electronic receipts forms the first side of the reasoning: it shows the benefits of this solution, such as lower paper consumption and easier storage of purchase confirmations. Only after such an introduction does the contrast naturally appear, namely the information about excluding some older customers. The options about older customers and about introducing changes gradually repeat the meaning of the later fragment, while the information about former regulations does not create the required contrast.

Rule: ordering paragraphs using the contrast signal z drugiej strony

  24. 24. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Biblioteka miejska wydłużyła godziny otwarcia w tygodniu. Filia na osiedlu natomiast będzie czynna krócej z powodu remontu”. Co sygnalizuje wyraz „natomiast”?

    1. A. wyjaśnienie przyczyny skrócenia godzin filii
    2. B. dodanie drugiego przykładu zmiany godzin otwarcia
    3. C. przeciwstawienie sytuacji filii decyzji biblioteki
    4. D. zapowiedź decyzji o zamknięciu całej biblioteki
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „natomiast” introduces a contrast or a juxtaposition of two different situations. In this fragment, the municipal library is extending its opening hours, while the branch will be open for a shorter time. Therefore, the answer about contrast is correct. The other answers do not express this relation: the point is not to explain a cause, to add a similar example, or to announce a decision to close the library.

Rule: the linking word „natomiast” as a signal of contrast

  25. 25. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Ministerstwo zapowiada dopłaty do rachunków za prąd, ale ekonomiści ostrzegają, że takie rozwiązanie nie usuwa przyczyn wysokich cen. Ich zdaniem potrzebne są inwestycje w sieci i stabilne przepisy.” Który tytuł najlepiej pasuje do tekstu?

    1. A. Dopłaty trwale usuną przyczyny wysokich cen
    2. B. Dopłaty nie wystarczą bez inwestycji
    3. C. Ekonomiści zapowiadają rachunki za prąd
    4. D. Stabilne przepisy są źródłem wysokich cen
    Poloniusz explains:

A good title conveys the main meaning of the passage, not just a single word repeated from the text. The author shows that subsidies are insufficient because they do not solve the causes of the problem, and mentions the need for investment and stable regulations. The other titles change the meaning of the statement or attribute claims to the author that are not present in the text.

Rule: matching a title to the main idea of a press text

  26. 26. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Nie chodzi o to, aby zrezygnować z papierowych książek. Raport pokazuje jednak, że biblioteki oferujące e-booki przyciągają także nowych czytelników do swoich sal.” Który tytuł najlepiej oddaje sens fragmentu?

    1. A. E-booki jako wsparcie dla bibliotek
    2. B. Papierowe książki przeciw e-bookom
    3. C. Koniec papierowych książek w bibliotekach
    4. D. Raport o zamykaniu sal bibliotecznych
    Poloniusz explains:

The passage does not announce giving up paper books, but shows that e-books can help libraries. The title about support for libraries reflects both the role of e-books and the absence of conflict with traditional books. The other titles distort the meaning because they speak about the end of books, the closing of reading rooms, or a dispute that the text does not confirm.

Rule: matching a title to the main idea of a passage

  27. 27. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Nie wystarczy zachęcać mieszkańców do segregowania odpadów. Miasto powinno przede wszystkim uprościć system odbioru, bo zbyt skomplikowane zasady zniechęcają nawet osoby dobrze nastawione.” Które zdanie najlepiej oddaje tezę autora?

    1. A. Dobre nastawienie mieszkańców rozwiązuje problem.
    2. B. Mieszkańcy nie chcą segregować odpadów.
    3. C. Miasto powinno uprościć system odbioru odpadów.
    4. D. Segregowanie odpadów jest zbyt kosztowne.
    Poloniusz explains:

A thesis is the author's main position, which is supported in the text by an argument. In this passage, the author claims that the city should simplify the collection system, and gives as an argument the discouraging effect of complicated rules. The answers about residents' reluctance, costs, and a positive attitude alone either do not follow from the text or contradict its meaning.

Rule: recognising the thesis of an argumentative text

  28. 28. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Ograniczenie nocnej sprzedaży alkoholu może zmniejszyć liczbę interwencji policji. Ponadto mieszkańcy skarżą się, że hałas pod sklepami trwa do rana.” Jaką funkcję pełni drugie zdanie?

    1. A. podaje ostateczny wniosek z całego artykułu
    2. B. odwołuje wcześniejszą tezę o interwencjach policji
    3. C. zmienia temat z alkoholu na handel w dzień
    4. D. dodaje kolejny argument za ograniczeniem sprzedaży
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „ponadto” introduces additional information that strengthens the previous argument. The second sentence does not withdraw the thesis, but adds another reason supporting the restriction of sales. It is also not a final conclusion or a change of topic to daytime trade.

Rule: the linking word ponadto introduces an additional argument

  29. 29. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment tekstu o jakości życia w centrum miasta: „Raport pokazuje, że hałas w centrum przekracza normy. Ponadto mieszkańcy skarżą się na brak zieleni i miejsc odpoczynku.” Jaką funkcję pełni drugie zdanie?

    1. A. podaje skutek przekroczenia norm hałasu
    2. B. zamyka temat hałasu wnioskiem końcowym
    3. C. dodaje kolejny argument za zmianami w centrum
    4. D. przeciwstawia opinie mieszkańców wynikom raportu
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „ponadto” introduces additional information that strengthens the previous argumentation. The second sentence does not describe the effect of noise, but adds another problem connected with quality of life in the centre. There is also no contrast here and no final conclusion.

Rule: the linking word ponadto signals the addition of an argument

  30. 30. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „W ankiecie 70% mieszkańców wskazało brak stojaków rowerowych, a policja odnotowała więcej kradzieży. Wobec tego rada osiedla zaproponowała montaż nowych zabezpieczeń.” Jaki związek między zdaniami wyraża „wobec tego”?

    1. A. drugie zdanie dodaje informację niezależną od wcześniejszych faktów
    2. B. drugie zdanie podważa wyniki przedstawione wcześniej w ankiecie
    3. C. drugie zdanie podaje wniosek wynikający z podanych faktów
    4. D. drugie zdanie opisuje przyczynę braku stojaków rowerowych
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „wobec tego” signals a conclusion or a decision resulting from the earlier information. In this passage, the proposal to install new security measures is the estate council's reaction to two facts given earlier: the lack of bicycle racks indicated by residents and the increase in the number of thefts recorded by the police. So this is not about the cause of the lack of racks, an independent piece of information, or undermining the survey results.

Rule: the linking expression wobec tego signals a conclusion

  31. 31. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „W centrum miasta stacje roweru publicznego stoją co kilkaset metrów. Jednak na nowych osiedlach mieszkańcy nadal muszą iść do najbliższej stacji ponad kwadrans.” Jeśli kolejny akapit ma zawierać wniosek z porównania, który wariant pasuje najlepiej?

    1. A. Wobec tego rozwój systemu powinien objąć przede wszystkim nowe osiedla.
    2. B. Natomiast w centrum miasta stacje rowerowe znajdują się blisko siebie i dość gęsto.
    3. C. Ponadto rowery publiczne mają regulowane siodełka i koszyki przy kierownicy.
    4. D. Historia roweru publicznego zaczęła się od kilku stacji w śródmieściu i centrum.
    Poloniusz explains:

After the comparison of the centre with the new housing estates, the logical conclusion should concern unequal access to stations. The sentence with „wobec tego” formulates such a conclusion and indicates a direction for action. The other variants only repeat the information about the centre, add an unrelated detail about bicycle equipment, or move the text back to historical background.

Rule: ordering paragraphs according to the pattern problem - conclusion

  32. 32. (B2)

Przeczytaj fragment: „W ostatnich latach liczba pasażerów komunikacji miejskiej wzrosła. Jednak bez nowych buspasów autobusy nadal będą stały w korkach.” Co sygnalizuje wyraz „jednak”?

    1. A. przyczynę wzrostu liczby pasażerów komunikacji miejskiej
    2. B. wniosek, że nowe buspasy nie są już wcale potrzebne
    3. C. przeciwstawienie wzrostu liczby pasażerów problemowi korków
    4. D. kolejny przykład lepszego działania komunikacji miejskiej
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „jednak” introduces a contrast: first the author speaks about an increase in the number of passengers, and then shows that despite this positive phenomenon, the unresolved problem of traffic jams remains.

    Rule: contrastive conjunction „jednak”

  33. 33. (B2)

Przeczytaj plan fragmentu tekstu argumentacyjnego: „Najpierw autor opisuje szybki wzrost cen mieszkań. Następnie pokazuje, że pensje rosną wolniej.” Który akapit powinien pojawić się jako trzeci, aby zachować logiczny porządek argumentacji?

    1. A. Ponadto ceny mieszkań w ostatnich latach szybko wzrosły w wielu miastach.
    2. B. Wobec tego zakup pierwszego mieszkania staje się trudniejszy dla wielu osób.
    3. C. W przeszłości mieszkania miały inne układy pokoi i mniejsze kuchnie.
    4. D. Jednak pensje rosną wolniej niż kilka lat temu w wielu branżach.
    Poloniusz explains:

After two premises have been presented, the logical next step is a conclusion introduced by the expression „wobec tego”. The sentence about it being more difficult to buy a flat follows from the combination of high housing prices and slower wage growth. The sentences about the rise in housing prices and the slower growth of wages repeat earlier stages of the plan, while the sentence about former flat layouts introduces a different topic.

Rule: ordering paragraphs in an argumentative text according to the relation between premise and conclusion

  34. 34. (B2)

Uzupełnij lukę zdaniem, które najlepiej zachowuje spójność argumentacji: „... Dlatego w dalszej części artykułu przyjrzymy się nie cenom biletów, lecz temu, czy pasażerowie mogą ufać rozkładom jazdy.”

    1. A. Rozkłady jazdy przygotowano w mniejszym formacie, dlatego łatwiej nosić je przy sobie.
    2. B. Pasażerowie najczęściej pytają o zniżki, dlatego artykuł powinien wyjaśnić system opłat.
    3. C. Ceny biletów są najważniejszym tematem, więc to im warto poświęcić osobny artykuł.
    4. D. W dyskusji o komunikacji miejskiej dominują ceny, jednak codzienny problem pasażerów to punktualność.
    Poloniusz explains:

The correct sentence introduces a contrast between the dominance of the topic of prices and the everyday problem of punctuality. Therefore, it logically announces that the further part of the article will concern not ticket prices, but trust in timetables.

Rule: argumentative coherence of a text: contrast and conclusion

  35. 35. (B2)

W tekście o zakupach internetowych brakuje jednego zdania: „Młodsi klienci najczęściej wybierają płatność telefonem. ...” Które zdanie najlepiej uzupełnia lukę, jeśli autor chce pokazać różnicę między grupami wieku?

    1. A. Natomiast starsi klienci częściej wybierają tradycyjny przelew.
    2. B. Wobec tego starsi klienci najczęściej wybierają płatność telefonem.
    3. C. Ponadto młodsi klienci najczęściej wybierają płatność telefonem.
    4. D. Jednak klienci w każdym wieku najczęściej rezygnują z zakupów internetowych.
    Poloniusz explains:

If the author wants to show a difference between two groups, a sentence introducing a contrast is needed. The word „natomiast” contrasts the behaviour of younger customers with the behaviour of older ones. The answer with „ponadto” only repeats information about younger customers, while the sentences with „wobec tego” and „jednak” introduce a meaning inconsistent with the stated purpose.

Rule: the linking word natomiast signals a contrasting comparison

  36. 36. (B2)

Wybierz tytuł najlepiej oddający sens fragmentu: „Nowe przepisy miały skrócić czas remontów kamienic. W praktyce wydłużyły procedury, bo urzędy muszą uzgadniać każdą drobną zmianę z konserwatorem.”

    1. A. Remonty kamienic będą krótsze
    2. B. Konserwatorzy odzyskują wpływ na kamienice
    3. C. Urzędy rezygnują z uzgodnień
    4. D. Reforma, która spowolniła remonty
    Poloniusz explains:

A good title should convey the main idea of the passage, not just repeat a single word. The meaning of the text lies in the contrast between the aim of the regulations and their effect, namely the slowing down of renovations. The titles about shorter renovations and giving up consultations contradict the content, while the title about conservators shifts attention from the problem of the reform to one element of the procedure.

Rule: matching a title to the thesis of a press passage

  37. 37. (C1)

Które zdanie najlepiej uzupełnia lukę w fragmencie: „Autorzy badania deklarują ostrożność w interpretacji wyników. ... W podsumowaniu formułują zalecenia tak kategoryczne, jakby zależność przyczynowa została dowiedziona.”?

    1. A. Tymczasem dalsza część raportu przeczy tej deklaracji.
    2. B. Wyniki ograniczają się więc do opisu neutralnych korelacji.
    3. C. Autorzy pomijają w raporcie jakiekolwiek wnioski końcowe.
    4. D. Ostrożność ta pozwala im uniknąć kategorycznych zaleceń.
    Poloniusz explains:

The gap requires a sentence that announces a contrast between declared caution and a categorical summary. The word „tymczasem” signals such an opposition well. The other options speak about avoiding recommendations, neutral correlations, or the lack of conclusions, which is inconsistent with the next sentence.

Rule: filling a gap with a sentence linking a contrast

  38. 38. (C1)

Które zdanie najtrafniej streszcza sens fragmentu: „Kiedy budowano obwodnicę, mieszkańcy mówili o końcu hałasu. Po roku cisza okazała się tylko inną nazwą dla samotności, bo sklepy i kawiarnia przeniosły się za samochodami.”?

    1. A. Inwestycja ograniczyła hałas, lecz osłabiła życie społeczne miejscowości.
    2. B. Sklepy i kawiarnia przeniosły się, żeby zapewnić klientom więcej ciszy.
    3. C. Obwodnica nie zmieniła poziomu hałasu, ponieważ samochody zostały w centrum.
    4. D. Mieszkańcy odzyskali ciszę i dlatego przestali korzystać z kawiarni.
    Poloniusz explains:

The most important meaning of the passage comes from the contrast between the expected benefit and the unintended social effect. „Cisza” is not only a positive value here, but a sign that the centre is becoming depopulated. The options speaking about no change in noise levels, a voluntary move away from cafés, or moving for the sake of quiet contradict the information in the text.

Rule: summarising a paragraph in one sentence while taking the contrast into account

  39. 39. (C1)

    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „tyle że” announces a reservation that limits or undermines the earlier promise. The sentence about the need to spend the recovered time filling in tables creates an ironic contrast: a tool that is supposed to save time itself requires additional time. The other sentences give neutral information, an evaluation of the application, or develop the promise of benefits, so they do not create the required contrast.

Rule: the relation of contrast in completing a gap

  40. 40. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Autorzy raportu nie kwestionują potrzeby inwestycji w transport publiczny. Zwracają natomiast uwagę, że bez zmiany taryf i integracji biletów nowe linie nie zwiększą liczby pasażerów.” Które zdanie najlepiej streszcza sens fragmentu?

    1. A. Nowe linie zwiększą liczbę pasażerów także bez zmian taryf i biletów.
    2. B. Raport dotyczy tylko taryf i cen biletów w transporcie publicznym.
    3. C. Autorzy raportu odrzucają potrzebę rozbudowy transportu publicznego.
    4. D. Inwestycje są potrzebne, lecz same nie wystarczą do wzrostu liczby pasażerów.
    Poloniusz explains:

The fragment contains two elements: confirmation that investment is needed and a reservation concerning the conditions for its effectiveness. The signal „natomiast” introduces a clarification and a contrast with the overly simple conclusion that new lines alone will be enough. Therefore, the correct summary must combine both meanings: investment is needed, but without changes in fares and ticket integration, it will not automatically lead to an increase in passenger numbers. The other answers are wrong because they either narrow the topic only to prices and fares, or attribute to the authors a rejection of investment, or state something opposite to what the fragment says.

Rule: summarising a paragraph in one sentence

  41. 41. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Badacz zapewnia, że nie wartościuje zjawiska. Tymczasem już w tytule nazywa je «plagą naszych czasów».” Jaką funkcję pełni wyraz „tymczasem”?

    1. A. Zapowiada przykład neutralnego opisu badanego zjawiska.
    2. B. Łączy tytuł z zapewnieniem jako dwa zgodne dowody.
    3. C. Wskazuje, że oba zdarzenia rozgrywają się dokładnie równocześnie.
    4. D. Sygnalizuje sprzeczność między deklaracją a praktyką autora.
    Poloniusz explains:

In this fragment, „tymczasem” does not have a purely temporal meaning, but a contrastive one. This word shows the discrepancy between the declared neutrality and the loaded expression „plaga naszych czasów”. An interpretation based on simultaneity or agreement ignores the logical relation between the sentences.

Rule: the linking word tymczasem signals contrast

  42. 42. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Bohaterka nie wspomina dzieciństwa wprost. Przedmioty w mieszkaniu uruchamiają jednak obrazy, które czytelnik musi złożyć w opowieść o utracie.” Które zdanie najlepiej streszcza fragment?

    1. A. Przedmioty w mieszkaniu tworzą realistyczne tło akcji i porządkują przebieg wydarzeń.
    2. B. Przeszłość bohaterki zostaje odtworzona pośrednio, przez znaczące przedmioty.
    3. C. Opowieść o utracie zostaje zastąpiona opisem remontu mieszkania i jego kolejnych etapów.
    4. D. Bohaterka szczegółowo opowiada czytelnikowi całe dzieciństwo, od początku do końca.
    Poloniusz explains:

The summary should capture the main meaning of both sentences: the indirect way of evoking the past and the role of objects in setting off images from which the reader pieces together a story of loss. The fragment clearly says that the heroine does not recall her childhood directly, so the version about a detailed account contradicts the text. The objects are not merely background or an element that orders events, because they have interpretive significance. There is also no mention of renovating the apartment.

Rule: summarising a literary text fragment in one sentence

  43. 43. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Dyrektor zapewnił, że rozmowy z załogą są priorytetem. Tego samego dnia odwołano zaplanowane spotkanie, nie wyznaczając nowego terminu.” Co można wywnioskować z tego fragmentu?

    1. A. Załoga odmówiła udziału w rozmowach i dlatego odwołano spotkanie.
    2. B. Rozmowy były priorytetem, więc konflikt został już rozwiązany.
    3. C. Deklaracja dyrektora pozostaje w sprzeczności z podjętym działaniem.
    4. D. Spotkanie przełożono na późniejszy termin, o którym poinformowano wszystkich.
    Poloniusz explains:

The fragment shows that the director considered talks with the staff a priority, but on the same day the planned meeting was cancelled and no new date was set. This juxtaposition allows us to infer an inconsistency between the declaration and the action. The text does not provide information that the meeting was postponed to a known date or that the staff refused. There is also no basis for concluding that the conflict was resolved.

Rule: inferring from what is left unstated

  44. 44. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Esej broni prowincji przed pogardą metropolii. Zarazem nie idealizuje małych miast: pokazuje ich ciasnotę i nieufność wobec obcych.” Co sygnalizuje wyraz „zarazem”?

    1. A. Autor łączy obronę prowincji z krytycznym dystansem.
    2. B. Autor porzuca obronę prowincji i przyjmuje pogardę metropolii.
    3. C. Autor przedstawia małe miasta wyłącznie jako miejsca przyjazne.
    4. D. Autor dowodzi, że metropolie są ciasne i nieufne wobec obcych.
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „zarazem” indicates the coexistence of two attitudes, not a simple negation of the first one. The author can defend the province against contempt and at the same time notice its limitations. Reading the fragment as either an idealisation or an adoption of the metropolis's contempt removes one of the two meanings that are present in parallel.

Rule: the linking word zarazem signals the coexistence of meanings

  45. 45. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Ministerstwo zapewnia, że konsultacje były szerokie: trwały całe dwie doby, w tym niedzielę. Trudno o bardziej imponujący dowód otwartości na dialog.” Jaka jest intencja autora?

    1. A. Autor informuje, że konsultacje były szerokie dzięki pracy w niedzielę.
    2. B. Autor ironicznie podważa rzekomą otwartość resortu na konsultacje.
    3. C. Autor z uznaniem podkreśla wyjątkową sprawność konsultacji resortu.
    4. D. Autor krytykuje konsultacje wyłącznie za zbyt długi czas trwania.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expressions „całe dwie doby” and „imponujący dowód” are ironic here, because the very short consultation period contradicts the declared openness. The interpretation that speaks of admiration for the ministry ignores the irony. The options about „szerokich” consultations and about criticism of an overly long time read individual words literally, against the meaning of the whole fragment.

Rule: recognising irony and added meaning in an opinion text

  46. 46. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Ministerstwo zapowiada uproszczenie procedur, jednak projekt rozporządzenia przewiduje trzy nowe załączniki i dodatkowy termin odwoławczy.” Jaką funkcję pełni w tym zdaniu wyraz „jednak”?

    1. A. wprowadza przykład działań, które mają uprościć procedury
    2. B. potwierdza zgodność projektu z zapowiedzią ministerstwa
    3. C. sygnalizuje sprzeczność między deklaracją a treścią projektu
    4. D. informuje o porządku kolejnych etapów pracy nad projektem
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „jednak” signals contrast. The second part of the sentence weakens or undermines the meaning of the first: the announcement of simplification is contrasted with information about three new attachments and an additional appeal deadline, that is, about new formal obligations. Therefore, the correct variant is the one indicating a contradiction between the declaration and the content of the draft. Reading this fragment as an example of simplification or as confirmation that the draft agrees with the announcement ignores the logical relation between the two parts of the sentence, and the answer about the order of the work wrongly assigns „jednak” an ordering function.

Rule: the linking word „jednak” signals contrast

  47. 47. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Ministerstwo zapowiada, że nowy formularz uprości procedury. Szkoda tylko, że obywatel, chcąc zaoszczędzić pięć minut, będzie musiał najpierw poświęcić weekend na instrukcję.” Jaka jest intencja autora?

    1. A. Autor wyjaśnia, dlaczego instrukcja skróci załatwianie spraw.
    2. B. Autor ironicznie podważa deklarowane uproszczenie procedur.
    3. C. Autor z uznaniem przyjmuje zapowiedziane uproszczenie procedur.
    4. D. Autor neutralnie informuje, ile czasu zajmie lektura instrukcji.
    Poloniusz explains:

The expression „szkoda tylko” introduces a reservation that cancels out the earlier declaration about simplification. The juxtaposition of five minutes with the whole weekend creates irony and shows the author's distance from the ministry's announcement. Reading the fragment as praise or as neutral information misses the contrastive meaning of the second sentence.

Rule: recognising irony in an opinion text

  48. 48. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Niniejszym wzywa się adresata do uzupełnienia braków formalnych pod rygorem pozostawienia wniosku bez rozpoznania.” Jaki styl dominuje w tym fragmencie?

    1. A. naukowy, bo fragment używa terminu związanego z procedurą i porządkiem pojęć
    2. B. publicystyczny, bo fragment relacjonuje działanie instytucji w tonie informacyjnym
    3. C. artystyczny, bo fragment celowo wzmacnia napięcie i oddziałuje na odbiorcę
    4. D. urzędowy, bo fragment posługuje się typową formułą administracyjną
    Poloniusz explains:

The formulas „niniejszym wzywa się”, „braki formalne” and „pod rygorem” are typical of official communication. They indicate an official administrative style, characteristic of administrative letters and procedures. The fragment does not comment on reality like an opinion text, does not present a scientific argument, and does not serve an aesthetic function. The word „formalnych” alone does not determine a scientific style, because in this context it belongs to the language of administration.

Rule: recognising official style from linguistic features

  49. 49. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Niniejszym wzywa się stronę do uzupełnienia braków formalnych w terminie siedmiu dni od dnia doręczenia pisma.” Gdzie najprawdopodobniej mógłby się pojawić taki tekst?

    1. A. w felietonie prasowym
    2. B. w recenzji teatralnej
    3. C. w piśmie urzędowym
    4. D. w artykule popularnonaukowym
    Poloniusz explains:

The phrases „niniejszym”, „wzywa się stronę” and „braki formalne” are typical of official style. The text formulates an obligation for the addressee and gives the deadline for fulfilling it, which distinguishes it from opinion journalism, popular science and a review. The word „strona” itself does not mean a website or a part of an article here, but a participant in proceedings.

Rule: recognising official style from linguistic features

  50. 50. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Organizatorzy ogłosili, że debata była otwarta dla wszystkich. Nie wspomnieli, że zaproszenie opublikowano dopiero godzinę przed rozpoczęciem spotkania.” Co wynika z informacji niedopowiedzianej wprost?

    1. A. Organizatorzy zaprosili wszystkich uczestników imiennie.
    2. B. Otwartość debaty została przedstawiona jako pozorna.
    3. C. Debata trwała tylko godzinę i dlatego była krótka.
    4. D. Godzina rozpoczęcia nie miała wpływu na udział publiczności.
    Poloniusz explains:

The second sentence reveals a circumstance that undermines the declaration about the openness of the debate. Since the invitation was published just before the meeting, participation by the wider public was in practice made difficult. The conclusion about the duration of the debate results from a mistaken reading of the word „godzinę”, not from the meaning of the fragment.

Rule: inferring from what is left unstated

  51. 51. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Po raz kolejny mieszkańcy mogą podziwiać zegar na dworcu, który z godną konsekwencją spóźnia się o siedem minut.” Jaka jest intencja autora?

    1. A. neutralnie opisać charakterystyczny element dworca
    2. B. zachęcić mieszkańców do odwiedzenia budynku dworca
    3. C. ironicznie skrytykować stale powracający problem
    4. D. pochwalić niezawodną punktualność dworcowego zegara
    Poloniusz explains:

The expressions „podziwiać” and „z godną konsekwencją” have an ironic meaning here, because they refer to a flaw, not to a virtue. The author is not praising the clock, but is showing with distance the absurdity of a situation that repeats regularly - the point is the continuing problem of a clock that is slow. Reading the fragment as an encouragement to admire it results from treating literally a word used ironically.

Rule: recognising irony and distance in an opinion text

  52. 52. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Raport, skądinąd rzetelny metodologicznie, pomija dane z najmniejszych gmin. Dlatego jego wnioski należy czytać z ostrożnością.” Jaką funkcję pełni wyraz „skądinąd”?

    1. A. Wskazuje, że rzetelność raportu jest głównym przedmiotem krytyki.
    2. B. Sygnalizuje, że autor odrzuca raport jako metodologicznie nierzetelny.
    3. C. Zapowiada wyliczenie danych, które pochodzą z najmniejszych gmin.
    4. D. Wprowadza zastrzeżenie pozytywne, które nie znosi późniejszej krytyki.
    Poloniusz explains:

The word „skądinąd” in this use signals concession: the author grants the report a certain advantage, but immediately points out its limitation. So the point is not to criticize the reliability of the report or to reject it completely. The variant about data from the smallest municipalities is based on repeating words from the text, but it does not reflect the function of this word.

Rule: the particle „skądinąd” as a signal of concession

  53. 53. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „Redakcja deklaruje pełną niezależność od reklamodawców. Nieprzypadkowo jednak w numerze poświęconym zdrowemu żywieniu ani razu nie pada nazwa koncernu, który wykupił rozkładówkę.” Co autor daje do zrozumienia?

    1. A. Deklarowana niezależność redakcji jest w tym przypadku wątpliwa.
    2. B. Numer nie dotyczy zdrowego żywienia, lecz wyłącznie rynku reklam.
    3. C. Redakcja krytykuje reklamodawców, ale robi to nieprzypadkowo.
    4. D. Koncern został nazwany wprost, bo wykupił rozkładówkę.
    Poloniusz explains:

The author does not speak directly about pressure from the advertiser, but suggests it by juxtaposing the declaration of independence with the omission of the corporation's name. The word „jednak” introduces a contrast between the declaration and the editorial practice. The options about an issue devoted only to advertising, naming the corporation directly, and criticizing advertisers contradict the content of the passage.

Rule: inferring from what is left unsaid and recognizing the author's suggestion

  54. 54. (C1)

Przeczytaj fragment: „W przypadku stwierdzenia braków formalnych wnioskodawca zostanie wezwany do ich usunięcia w terminie siedmiu dni od dnia doręczenia wezwania.” Gdzie najprawdopodobniej mógłby się znaleźć ten fragment?

    1. A. w felietonie komentującym obyczaje urzędników i ich sposób działania
    2. B. w artykule naukowym o doręczeniach elektronicznych i procedurach administracyjnych
    3. C. w opowiadaniu z narracją pierwszoosobową o urzędzie i przebiegu sprawy
    4. D. w piśmie urzędowym albo instrukcji dla wnioskodawcy i strony postępowania
    Poloniusz explains:

The passage has features of official style: impersonality, a precise statement of the deadline, and formulas such as „braki formalne” and „doręczenie wezwania”. It therefore fits best in an official letter or in instructions for an applicant. A column would require commentary or evaluation, a scholarly article would usually contain research terminology and argumentation, and a story with first-person narration would not have this kind of impersonal construction.

Rule: recognizing official style by its linguistic features
