Jak opisać problem w urzędzie?
Show the answer
Answer: Mam problem ze złożeniem wniosku.
Example: Mam problem ze złożeniem wniosku, bo system nie przyjmuje mojego numeru PESEL.
Poloniusz explains:
„Mam problem z” combines with forms like „ze złożeniem”, „z terminem”, „z dokumentami”. After describing the problem, say straight away what you want: „czy mogę złożyć go papierowo?”. Otherwise the clerk has to guess what to offer.

Jak przeprosić za spóźnienie albo pomyłkę?
Show the answer
Answer: Przepraszam za spóźnienie, zatrzymał mnie korek.
Example: Bardzo przepraszam za spóźnienie, zatrzymał mnie korek na moście. Postaram się nadrobić.
Poloniusz explains:
After „przepraszam za” comes a noun: „za spóźnienie”, „za pomyłkę”, „za kłopot”. A short explanation is expected in Poland, but a long one sounds like an excuse. Best to add what you will do next.

Jak opowiedzieć o swoim doświadczeniu?
Show the answer
Answer: Pracowałem jako kierowca przez pięć lat.
Example: Pracowałem jako kierowca przez pięć lat, a od roku zajmuję się logistyką.
Poloniusz explains:
After „pracować jako” comes the job title in the form seen in „jako kierowca”, „jako nauczycielka”. Give duration with „przez” for a closed period and „od” for one still running. These two constructions recur in every job conversation.

Jak poprosić przełożonego o urlop?
Show the answer
Answer: Chciałbym prosić o urlop w przyszłym tygodniu.
Example: Chciałbym prosić o urlop od poniedziałku do środy. Sprawy bieżące przekażę koleżance.
Poloniusz explains:
„Prosić o urlop” is the fixed collocation; „brać urlop” is what you say about yourself, not to your manager. Adding who will cover your duties usually decides the matter and is expected in Polish workplace culture.

Czym różni się imiesłów przymiotnikowy czynny od biernego?
Show the answer
Answer: Czynny wskazuje wykonawcę: „czytający student”. Bierny wskazuje obiekt czynności: „przeczytany tekst”.
Poloniusz explains:
The active participle is formed from imperfective verbs with the suffix -ący: „czytający”, „piszący”. The passive participle is formed from transitive verbs, regardless of aspect: „czytany” alongside „przeczytany”, „lubiany” alongside „polubiony”. Transitivity decides, not aspect: from „iść” or „spać” no passive participle can be formed at all.
