Exam papers from previous years: where to find them

A textbook teaches you the language, while an exam paper teaches you the format. In the certificate exam, the second factor more often determines the result.

Why old exam papers are the best study material

Textbooks teach the language. An exam paper teaches the format - and it is the format that determines the result for people who know Polish well enough. How much time you have for a module, how many times you will hear the recording, how long the written response should be, how the instruction is worded: you cannot infer this from a description of the exam structure, you have to see it.

Państwowa Komisja provides an archive: 181 files with exam papers, answer keys, transcripts and 58 recordings for the listening comprehension module. Below, we have organized them by level and session, because on the Komisja website they appear as one continuous list.

All links lead directly to the Komisja files. We do not copy anything to our own server - this way you always open the current version, including when the Komisja replaces a file after a correction.

How to use them so that it makes sense

  1. First the exam paper, only then the key. Complete the whole module under exam conditions: with a timer, without a dictionary, without a phone. Looking at the key during the task turns a mock exam into reading comprehension.
  2. Play the recording as many times as the instruction allows, not as many times as you need. In the exam, no one will rewind the file for you.
  3. Read the transcript after checking your answers. Then you can see at which moment you lost the meaning - and it is usually one specific word, not „słaby słuch”.
  4. Do not estimate points by eye. Passing thresholds are set by regulations and differ between modules; the percentage result from a paper says little without that grid.
  5. Do exam papers from different years. The format is stable, but the topics of texts and task types shift - one paper is one sample, not a picture of the exam.

Task sets

In addition to exam papers, the Komisja provides task sets - practice material for individual modules, packed into archives. Their names are not divided by level, so they are not included in the list above.

Where this comes from

This list was created from two pages of Państwowa Komisja: exam tests from previous years and sample tests. If any link stops working, it means that the Komisja has moved the file - in that case, go directly to those two pages.

Questions and answers

Where can I find official exam papers from previous years?

They are published by Państwowa Komisja do spraw Poświadczania Znajomości Języka Polskiego jako Obcego (the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language). The archive has 181 files: exam papers, answer keys, transcripts, and 58 recordings. On this page, we have organized them by level and exam session, with links directly to the Commission's files.

For which levels are exam papers available?

They are available for levels A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 in the adult group, and for B1 and B2 in the group adapted to the needs of children and young people. There is the most material for B1 - this is the level required when applying for Polish citizenship, so the largest number of people take this exam.

Are there recordings for the listening comprehension module?

Yes, the archive has 58 recordings, and most of them also have a transcript with an answer key. This is the only way to practise this module in real conditions: during the exam, the recording is played a set number of times and you cannot rewind it.

Is an exam paper from 2017 still up to date?

The exam format is stable, so an older exam paper still teaches the structure of tasks and the types of instructions. However, the rules about how the exam is conducted and about pass thresholds may change - do not check these in an old exam paper, but in the current regulation.

Can I download these files from your website?

No, and this is a deliberate decision. We link to the files of Państwowa Komisja instead of copying them to our own server, because it is their publication, and the link always leads to the current version - also after a correction.

Where should I start if I have little time?

Start with one full exam paper from the newest session at your level, done with a timer and without help. The result will show which module costs you points - and only then does it make sense to practise that module using more exam papers.
